Culver to participate in Black History Month celebration

Des Moines — Governor Chet Culver and six members of the Iowa House of Representatives will host the State of Iowa's Black History Month Celebration today at the State Capitol in Des Moines. Governor Culver will sign the 2010 Black History Month proclamation. In addition, the City Wide Youth Choir and Vashauna Evans will perform during the ceremony and blues artist Kevin Burt will provide entertainment prior to the event.







The program will include presentations by Governor Culver and each of the state's six African American members of the Iowa House of Representatives:







Representative Wayne Ford, District 65 – Des Moines



Representative Ako Abdul-Samad, District 66 – Des Moines



Representative Helen Miller, District 49 – Fort Dodge



Representative Phyllis Thede, District 81 – Davenport



Representative Deborah Berry, District 22 – Waterloo



Representative Kerry Burt, District 21 – Waterloo







The representatives will present awards to Iowans who make a difference by celebrating diversity in their respective communities.
