Hall of Famers share stories

Knoxville —

The Sprint Car 101 program of Thursday, June 21 presented racing fans with a unique opportunity to experience three Hall of Fame members, each with a different perspective on racing.  Host Bob Baker, Hall of Fame director, started the program by interviewing John Mahoney, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame as a photographer.  John related stories of his career from its beginning as a college student, through his years as a UPI photographer, to his experiences with modern day USAC and NASCAR personalities.

Bob Baker next turned to Hall of Fame member, Dick Jordan, current USAC News Media Director.  When asked about the state of USAC, Dick gave a description of USAC activities with its successes as well as its challenges, along with his experiences with past, present and future USAC drivers.

Mr. Baker then asked Hall of Famer Rollie Helmling, Director of Motor Sports Development for the State of Indiana about the process Indiana had used to rebuild its racing industry.  Again, stories of racing experiences were prevalent.

These three Hall of Famers presented an informative and witty evening.  The evening ended with questions from the audience.
Sprint Car 101 meets the third Thursday of the month at 7:00 p.m. at the Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Museum.  Due to schedule conflicts, the July and August meeting will not be held.  The series will resume Thursday, September 18. Sprint Car 101 programs are free and open to the public and a good opportunity to get a different perspective on racing.
