Pella Knights roll to 20-0 win over Midwest Rampage

Pella —

The Pella Knights doubled their winning streak with a 20-0 victory over the Midwest Rampage in Midwest Football Alliance action Saturday night.

Pella (2-1) is now 1-1 in the MFA’s East division after its first shutout of the season.  The Knights racked up a total of 270 yards, including 180 through the air.  Jarred Lackey (Somerset, Ariz.) and Trent McDermott (Centerville, Iowa) combined for the team’s best passing game of the year.

Lackey put the home team on the board on its third possession of the night, connecting with DeMarco Sanders (Horn Lake, Miss.) for a 12-yard passing score. The Knights continued to move the ball well in its next drive, eventually settling for a 32-yard field goal by Jordan Krulik (Minnetonka, Minn.) to make it 10-0.

Lackey advanced the score to 17-0 when he broke free for a 70-yard touchdown scamper.  The rookie quarterback was just 10-of-17 for 67 yards, but also added 88 yards on seven carries.

Krulik added a season-best 46-yard field goal in the second half to wrap up the scoring.

McDermott was extremely efficient behind center, connecting on six of eight passes for 113 yards.  Jose Lainez (Miami, Fla.) hauled in three balls for 90 yards, while Reggie Morris (Penns Grove, N.J.) topped the crew with four receptions (17 yards).

Chris Ruff (Highland Park, Mich.) led the defensive crew with six tackles, while Jeffrey Little (Ottumwa, Iowa) recorded three sacks. Derrikk Crawford (Fairfield, Iowa) also managed three tackles for loss (four total).  Mark Gronzalski (Oskaloosa, Iowa) punted five times for an average of 35.2 yards, while Deon Freeman (Memphis, Tenn) returned one punt for 12 yards.

The team is back in action Saturday, traveling to Des Moines to face the defending MFA champion Des Moines Blaze for a 7 p.m. start.
