Twin Cedars loses in Des Moines, 3-1

Des Moines — The Twin Cedars Sabers held off the BGM Bears at Principal Park Thursday afternoon until the top of the sixth. 

The Sabers lost 3-1 at the home of the Iowa Cubs, when the Bears capitalized on a double, an error and a fielder's choice in the top of the sixth. 

"I'm real proud of our kids' effort," TC Head Coach Matt Miller said. "We didn't have enough in that last inning." 

Otis Roby pitched the entire game. He struck out seven and scored from second for the Sabers' only run. He allowed only one walk.

The trip to the minor league ballpark is special to the team, Roby said. There were approximately 40 Sabers' fans in the stands to cheer the team on during the road trip.

"It's always good to see people out at the park," Roby said. 

Miller knew the game would be tough for the Sabers. Had it not been for a couple of mistakes, the Sabers could have won, he believes. As he stated, Miller is proud of the team and of Roby, for his pitching efforts.

"That's what he does, he stays around the zone," Miller said. 

Thursday's loss brings Twin Cedars' record to 9-5 on the season. The team travels to Seymour Friday night, followed by a trip to Martensdale-St. Marys on Saturday.
