Construction begins on Twin Cedars bus barn

Bussey — After losing its bus barn to a fire a few months ago, construction work has begun on a new and improved structure.

Larry Elwood Construction of Mason City was awarded the contract. Cost of the new building is at approximately $260,000, according to Twin Cedars Superintendent Brian VanderSluis. Nearly $128,000 of the cost will be covered by insurance, with the school district picking up the rest. The school's funding comes from the Local Option Sales and Services Tax.

VanderSluis believes it will be a nice structure when completed. It will have more square footage that will better accommodate longer buses than the old structure. It will also be big enough to store the district's sander and snow removal equipment.

Twin Cedars is currently storing some equipment at a shed in Bussey, owned by Marion County. VanderSluis said the district is thankful for the help.

The new bus barn may be done as soon as Nov. 1.
