Rawlings, Washington crowned king and queen

Knoxville — Jeremy Rawlings and Tyra Washington were crowned the 2012 Knoxville High School Homecoming King and Queen.

Rawlings said being crowned king "felt pretty good." He did not expect to win.

Washington was surprised as well. She said she was shaky, and while she didn't intend to cry, she could not help it.

The coronation was the final act of tonight's pep rally, which featured Knoxville's smallest cheerleaders, dance team, band and high school cheerleaders. Football Coach Troy Rider told the hundreds in attendance that Friday's game against Carlisle is a playoff game, one that the team needs to win to have a chance at the postseason.

Prior to the pep rally, $1,731 was raised through a jersey auction. Player jerseys were auctioned off to be worn tomorrow, but must be returned after the game. Student Senate and the football team will split the proceeds evenly.

Look for more homecoming coverage here and in the Oct. 5 Journal-Express.
