Knoxville — The Journal-Express has learned that a copy of a Letter to the Editor written by John Mertz, which ran in the May 25, 2012, Knoxville Journal-Express, have been copied and put into mailboxes of homeowners, during the overnight hours of Thursday and into early Friday morning, that have Jason Sandholdt supports signs in their yards. The copy of the Letter to the Editor, according to the report, does not include the Editor's Note which stated:
Sandholdt confirms that all 16 officers signed the letter of no confidence. Chuck Corell, Assistant Chief with the DNR, told the Journal-Express that there are currently no restrictions upon whom Sandholdt can supervise. Boddy is no longer with the DNR and denied making that statement.
Corell and Pat Boddy were both contacted by the Journal-Express for clarification on the statements that were claimed to be said by both individuals in the letter.
The copy of the letter is also believed to question homeowners on exactly who they are supporting.
When contacted, Randy Puyear, Sandholdt's opponent in the primary election, stated that he had not distributed any flyers and had no knowledge of the flyers being circulated.
