Legislators endorse Heartsill

Knoxville —  

Retiring Reps. Rich Arnold (R-Russell) and Jim Van Engelenhoven (R-Pella) joined retiring Sen. Paul McKinley (R-Chariton) as they announced their support for Greg Heartsill who is running for the Iowa House in District 28.  This new house district includes portions of Jasper, Marion and Lucas Counties including Knoxville, Monroe and Pleasantville.   Heartsill is seeking his first term.

 

“Greg Heartsill represents our values and will bring a conservative approach to governing,” stated Rep. Van Engelenhoven. 

 

Heartsill is a small business owner and is a member of the National Federation of Independent Business, the National Rifle Association and the Iowa Farm Bureau.  He and his wife, Angie, have nine children and have resided in Marion County for 18 of their 19 years of marriage.

 

“I’m proud to be supporting Greg Heartsill for the Iowa House.  As a small business owner, Greg knows what it takes to get our economy moving forward and will work to make it easier to be an employer in Iowa,” said Sen. McKinley.

 

Arnold has represented the area since 1994 but earlier this year announced his retirement from the House.   All three legislators agree that Heartsill will go to Des Moines to fight for the taxpayer.   

 

“I know Greg will put Iowa taxpayers first.  He is a dedicated listener who will work tirelessly to maintain and preserve our small town way of life,” said Rep. Arnold.   “I hope you will join me in voting for Greg on Nov. 6.”

• Sinclair never felt uncomfortable in caucus

  Des Moines media this week have been reporting on the dismissal of former Senate Republican Communications Director Kristen Anderson. Anderson is alleging sexual harassment led to this, and Republicans contend that she was dismissed due to her performance. Sen. Amy Sinclair is a female Republican Senator, and says she has never felt uncomfortable around her male counterparts.

• Governor includes Marion County in disaster declaration
  Governor Terry E. Branstad today issued a third proclamation of disaster emergency in response to recent storms and flooding in south and southeast Iowa. Fifteen counties are included in this proclamation:  Appanoose, Clinton, Davis, Decatur, Des Moines, Jefferson, Keokuk, Lucas, Marion, Monroe, Ringgold, Van Buren, Wapello, Warren and Wayne.

• Branstad approves commutation request

  Gov. Terry E. Branstad today granted Rasberry Williams’ commutation request. Williams, age 67, committed first-degree murder on July 20, 1974, in Black Hawk County. A jury convicted Williams of first-degree murder and he was sentenced to life without possibility of parole.  Today Governor Branstad commuted his sentence to life with possibility of parole.
