Juanita Lillie Swayne was born on Feb. 15, 1929, in Chariton, the daughter of Fredrick Willett and Beulah (Wright) Willett.
She was united in marriage to Arthur Dale Swayne, Sr. on April 6, 1947, in Troy, Kansas. The two made their home in Marion County. Juanita worked at the Knoxville V.A. Hospital in the Dietetics Department until her retirement in 1991.
Juanita grew her own vegetables for canning and was known as the family green thumb that could bring any sick plant back to life. She was a caretaker, not only to her own family, but to all of the neighborhood children too. Juanita loved her two cats and had the most well fed squirrels and birds in the neighborhood. In her younger years, she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.
Juanita passed away on Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012, at her home at the age of 83 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Art on March 18, 2005; brother, Henry; sister, Carm; daughter, Janice and a great-grandson, Blaine.
Survivors include her children: Lloyd (Judy) Swayne of Grimes, Barbara (Dave) Williams of Lovilia, Gordon (Shirley) Swayne, Arthur Swayne, Jr., Gary (Jodi) Swayne, and Gina (Richard) Breese all of Knoxville; 23 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; siblings: Larry Willett and Fredrick Willett of Chariton and Evelyn (Dean) Huffman of Monroe.
Private family services have been planned with burial in the Greenwood Cemetery.
