Mary Libby

Pella —  

Memorial services for Mary Libby of Pella and formerly Knoxville were held on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at the St. Anthony Catholic Church with Rev. Stephen P. Ebel, officiating.  Burial of the urn took place in the Asbury Cemetery, rural Marion County.  Musical selections of “How Great Thou Art”, “Amazing Grace”, “Here I Am Lord”, “Prayer of St. Francis” and “Let There Be Peace on Earth” were lead by Mary Burke.

Mary Lauretta (Brick) Libby, 83, loving wife, mother, dear friend to many, died peacefully surrounded by family on December 12, 2012 at The Hospice Comfort House of Pella.  

Mary was born on April 9, 1929, in Des Moines at Mercy Hospital.  She went to high school at Saint Joseph's Academy in Des Moines.  After high school, Mary worked at a local candy shop in Des Moines, where she met her future husband on a blind date.  

Mary and Jerry Libby were married at Saint Ambrose Cathedral in Des Moines on April 26, 1952.  This marriage produced two wonderful children James and Susan.  Mary and the family resided in Des Moines from 1952 to 1972 where Mary worked at Brenton Bank.  

The family moved to Knoxville in 1972 where Mary worked at Iowa State Savings Bank.  In 2008, they moved to Vriendschap Village in Pella.  Throughout her life, Mary created many lifelong friendships.  

Mary had many loves in her life.  She loved her family, her church, her hobbies of painting, baking pies, and nurturing her many friendships developed over the years.  Mary had a generous heart and was always willing to help those in need.  She now joins her lifelong partner in heaven, and can continue their dance started in 1952.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry, her father, Henry Brick and mother, Elizabeth (Weidmann) Brick.  

Mary is survived by a son, James Libby and spouse Denise of Knoxville, a daughter Susan (Libby) Wellman and spouse Mark of Geneva, Switzerland, three grandchildren: Heather (Libby) and spouse Shawn Whittington, Ian Libby and spouse Connie, Cara (Libby) Readout and spouse John, and two great grandchildren:  Xavier Libby-Whittington and Owen Libby.  Mary is also survived by two sisters Betty (Brick) Miller and spouse Maylon of Florida, and Margeurite (Brick) Hines and spouse Charlie of Indianola.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations sent to the funeral home in loving memory of Mary Libby to either Hospice Comfort House of Pella, or Saint Anthony's Memorial Fund.  Online condolences may be left at BertrandFuneralHomes.com.
