Leroy Winfield

Leroy Noel Winfield was born on Dec. 24, 1938, to Vera and Roy Winfield. He met and married Jeanie Marie Van Ginkel and, together through their 53 years of marriage, seven children were born.

Leroy lived a down-to-Earth life. He worked for Armstrong Tire and Rubber for 27 years before retiring due to disability.

Leroy’s favorite hobbies were trapping furs, playing pool, reading, collecting memorabilia of Marion County and tinkering in his woodshop.

Leroy died Feb. 4, 2010, at his residence in Knoxville at the age of 71 years, one month, and 11 days.

Leroy is survived by his wife, Jeanie Winfield; seven children, Mary Ford, Jeanie and Bill Schlotterback, Nanette and George Marshall, Karen and Darl Rose, Ava Jo and Scott McRoberts, Leroy Winfield II, and Beverly Williams; 18 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one brother, Larry Burkin; and one sister, Joyce Ann Stupp.

Upon Leroy’s request the family gathered for visitation on Sunday afternoon, Feb. 7, at the Winfield-Evans-McCleery Funeral Home in Knoxville from 1-4: p.m. A private burial will be held at a later date at Graceland Cemetery of Knoxville.

A memorial has been established to Hospice of Pella or to S.O.S. of Knoxville.
