Graveside funeral services for Waunita Stebbeds, of Knoxville, were held on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012, at the Bass Pointe Cemetery, Boone, with Pastor Robert Sifrit officiating. Honorary casket bearers were Larry Burkett, David Van Ryswyk, Tyler Pennington, Mick Burkett and Brian Pennington.

Waunita Maxine Stebbeds was born March 31, 1922, in Beaver, Iowa, the daughter of Robert and Erma (Bush) Sifrit.

She was raised in Beaver and graduated from Beaver High School with the Class of 1939. On Oct. 15, 1939, she was united in marriage to Floyd Roland Stebbeds in Des Moines. The couple lived in different locations in Illinois and Iowa throughout the years. They moved to Knoxville in 1986 following Floyd’s retirement. Waunita was a homemaker most of her life, although she had worked as a cook for different school systems. In her spare time, Waunita enjoyed gardening, traveling, crafts and calligraphy. She and Floyd also loved to dance, and they would travel twice a week to different dances. Waunita volunteered for 30 years at the Old Thresher’s Reunion in Mount Pleasant, and she was also a volunteer at the Knoxville Hospital for many years

Waunita passed away on Monday, Aug. 27, 2012, at West Ridge Nursing and Rehab at the age of 90 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two infant sons.

Those left to honor her memory include her husband Floyd; daughter, Pamela Van Ryswyk (Jim) of Chariton and Rick Stebbeds (Sherry) of Mesa, Ariz.; four grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and many other family members and friends.
