Philip Ryan, Concelebrant & Homilist and Rev. Mr. Donald Efinger, Deacon.  Burial followed in the Graceland Cemetery with Military Honors accorded by the United States Army, the American Legion Baty-Tucker Post 168 and the V.F.W. John Myers Post #3519.

Musical selections were shared by St. Anthony Choir with selections of “On Eagle’s Wings”, Precious Lord, Take My Hand”, “How Great Thou Art” and “Here I am Lord”.  Casket bearers included Ian Findlater, Mallory Koula, Anthony Brothersen, Jacob Buffo, Jared Findlater, Taylor Koula, Jessica Brothersen and Corinne Buffo.

Joe F. Buffo was born Dec. 4, 1911, in Louisville, Colo., the son of Andrea and Maria (Perona) Buffo.

Joe was raised in Louisville, Colo., where he graduated from high school.  Following high school, he attended Browns Business College in Denver, Colo.  After graduating from college, Joe worked for a dairy and mined coal.  He then went to work for the VA in Fort Lyon, Colo.  Joe would spend the rest of his career with the VA, living in many different locations throughout the United States.

He was living in Perry Point, Md., when he was inducted into the United States Army in March 1943.  Joe served his country honorably during WWII and was discharged in December 1945.  Joe returned to work for the VA and was later transferred to Omaha, Neb., where he met the love of his life, Jane Carter.

The couple was united in marriage on April 30, 1955, in Omaha.  In 1960, Joe accepted his final transfer to the VA in Knoxville, where he served as Chief of Supply until his retirement in 1978.

He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, the V.F.W. Post 3519, American Legion Post 168 and the N.A.R.F.E.  In his spare time, Joe enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking.  His woodworking projects were a work of art and often requested by his children.  He loved his native Colorado which he called “God’s Country” and his family spent many vacations there fishing the trout streams.  Joe and Jane also enjoyed dancing and had a reputation of being one of the best dancing couples on the floor.  His greatest pleasure was spending time with his family and watching the eight grandchildren grow.

Joe passed away on Monday, Aug. 27, 2012, at his home at the age of 100 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, John and sister, Louise.

Those left to honor his memory include his loving wife, Jane; children:  Janet Findlater of Marengo, Dr. Janine Buffo (Gilbert Koula) of Appleton, Wis., Joanne Buffo of West Branch, Dr. Jeffrey Buffo (Diane) of Cedar Rapids; 8 grandchildren and a brother, Martin Buffo of Lakewood, Colo.
