Bussey —
Vera Darlene Reed, age 80 of Bussey, passed away at her home, under hospice care on Tuesday, June 26, 2012.
She was born Dec. 11, 1931, in Bluff Creek Township of Monroe County, Iowa, the daughter of Floyd J. and Erma (Stewart) Bonnett. Vera attended Fairview Country School and graduated from Bussey High School.
On Oct. 2, 1949, at the Union Liberty Church, Vera was united in marriage to Donald Gene “Speck” Reed Sr. They shared 55 years of marriage and were blessed with five children; Dennis, Donald, Jr., Duane, Melinda, and Michele. Speck died on Dec. 7, 2004.
Vera worked at the Overall Factory in Oskaloosa and for many years at Chamberlain Manufacturing in Albia. She also worked at the Griffin Nursing Home and most recently drove a van for Twin Cedars School to Indianola. Vera was a member of the Bussey United Methodist Church, she enjoyed crocheting, and especially her grandchildren.
Vera is survived by her children Dennis “Denny” Reed and his wife Monica of Bussey, Donald Reed, Jr. and his wife Carol of rural Albia, Duane “Maynard” Reed and his wife Shelly of Albia, Melinda Reed of Lovilia, and Michele Harrington and her husband Doug of Blakesburg; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren. Vera is also survived by one brother Dwight “Hyme” Bonnett and his wife Pat of Bussey and one sister Diana Gullion and her husband Clyde “Bo” of Lovilia.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one grandson Dennis Reed, Jr., and one sister Delores Jane Bonnett.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 29, 2012, at the Bussey United Methodist Church iwith Rev. Ray Dosier officiating. Burial will follow services at Greenlawn Cemetery of Bussey.
