Bussey —
LaDonna Darlene McConnell, age 88, of Bussey, passed away at her home on Wednesday, June 20, 2012.
She was born April 3, 1924, in Hamilton, the daughter of Howard Lowell and Myrtle Marie (Yeutsy) Crane. LaDonna attended Hamilton School and graduated from Bussey High School, Class of 1941. After high school she attended a business college in Ottumwa, receiving her degree.
On Jan. 1, 1942, LaDonna was united in marriage to Leo Jack McConnell. They shared 65 years of marriage and were blessed with two daughters Judy and Jane. Jack died on Dec. 31, 2007.
LaDonna worked for many years at the doctor’s office in Bussey. She performed many duties as a doctor’s assistant and office manager. She was also a member of the Bussey United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, and a member of the Rebecca Lodge for over 50 years. LaDonna enjoyed her time playing cards, sewing, and cooking, especially pancakes and cookies. She loved sharing time with her family.
LaDonna is survived by her daughters Judy Shafer of Knoxville and Jane McCombs and husband Dave of Bussey; four grandchildren Jay Shafer and wife Bridget, Jeremy Shafer, Jeffery Shafer, and Angela Bacus and husband Mark; and five great grandchildren Amanda and Trenton Bacus, Jackson, Joey and William Shafer. LaDonna is also survived by her sister-in-law Erna Crane of Bussey and brother-in-law Gilbert and his wife Dorene McConnell of Indianola.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Leo Jack McConnell; two grandchildren in infancy, Susan and Jack Shafer; and one brother, Dale Crane.
Funeral services were held Saturday June 23, 2012, at the Bussey United Methodist Church in Bussey with Pastor Dale Schoening officiating. Burial followed services at Greenlawn Cemetery of Bussey.
