Leslie “Jake” James Plum, age 94 of Oskaloosa, formerly of Bussey, died Monday, Sept. 10, 2012, at Northern Mahaska Nursing and Rehab Center.

Jake was born Sept. 17, 1917, in Monroe County to Fred and Mary (Bonnett) Plum. He graduated from Bussey High School, Class of 1935, and was engaged in farming until being called to active duty. He was a Sergeant in Company K – 133rd Regiment 34th Infantry Division and served his country from 1941 to 1944 fighting in World War II.

Jake married Dorothy Irene Shaw of Albia on July 21, 1944. They bought a farm and worked side by side until their retirement in 1979, when they moved into Bussey. He later moved to Oskaloosa in July 2001.

Jake always enjoyed being with his friends. He loved to play cards, bowl, golf, and share time with family. In his later years, he enjoyed going to the Senior Center for lunch and going to McDonald’s. He was a people person and enjoyed life to the fullest.

Jake is survived by a daughter, Linda (Chuck) Furman of Oskaloosa; a grandson, Mike (Dawn) Smith of Monroe; two great granddaughters, Kayla Krueger and Courtney Besteman; a great step-grandson, Scott Blum; and a great-great grandchild due in November.

Jake was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; his parents; three sisters, Edith Plum, Bertha Plum, and Ethel Bain; and a brother, Clarence.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m., Friday, September 14, 2012, at Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Pastor Neil Montz officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Bussey.

Jake’s family will be present one hour prior to the service Friday.

Memorials may be directed to Greenlawn Cemetery in Bussey.
