Norris Bennett

Chariton —  

Services for Norris Bennett, 87, of Chariton will be Saturday, April 21, 2012, at 3:00 p.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. Family will receive friends prior to the service on Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home. Interment will be at the Columbia Cemetery. A luncheon will be held at the Columbia Community Center following the burial. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Lucas County Humane Society. Norris Elwain Bennett, 87, passed away Tuesday, April 17 after a long battle with cancer at his farm surrounded by his family.  Norris was born to Morton Lane Bennett and Iva Melvina Olson on the family farm near Pierre, South Dakota on March 17, 1925.  He left school after the seventh grade, during the Depression, to help support the family by working on the family farm. He later served in the Army as a Sergeant during World War II. Mr. Bennett had lived in Lucas County, Iowa since 1952 where he was a farmer and he drove the school bus for Chariton Community School District for 40 years. 
 

Norris was a loving and generous husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and uncle. Norris was very kind, understanding, and patient. He loved life and his family.

 
He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Nancy Jean Kretsch.

 

 Norris leaves behind his wife Linda Bennett, his children: Brenda  (Bennett) Rothfus of Hartford, Iowa; Jeff Bennett (wife Deb) of Geneva, Nebraska; Noranne (Bennett) Keller (husband John) of Chariton; Steve Hayes (wife Marilyn) of Leawood, Kansas and Kelly (Hayes) White (husband Luke) of Chariton; grandchildren Sandy Cook of Indianola, Kathy Malli of Milo, Derek Storm of Des Moines, and Nicole Collins of Mequoketa, Justin Bennett of Charleston, South Carolina; Christina Bennett of  Los Angeles, California; Megan Nunns of Geneva, Nebraska, Joe Keller, of Des Moines, Jamie Keller of Des Moines, Kalie Keller of Chariton; Bridget White of Chariton, Seth Williams of North Carolina, and Rachel Runnells of Chariton; and great-grandchildren Krystal, Gregory,and Brianna Cook; Morgan and Madison Collins; Skylar and Ben Malli; Natalie, Kadie, and James Junior Collins; Caroline Bennett; Caeden Keller; Ruby Williams; and Hunter and Harley Runnells.

 

Also surviving are brothers: Lorrell Bennett of Garfield Minnesota, Bob Bennett (wife Betty) of Annawan, Illinois, and his sisters: Francis 'Lavon' (Bennett) (husband Bob) Rapp of Alexandria, Minnesota, Mary Lee (Bennett) Marsh of Springfield, Missouri, Betty (Bennett) Vandegrift of Greenfield, Missouri; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
