Mildred Elizabeth (Betty) Dare 94, passed from this life Friday, Dec.14, 2012, at Knoxville Hospital and Clinics.

She was born March 26, 1918, in Chariton, the third child of Edward and Emma (May) Luke. She was raised and educated in Chariton and Melcher where she graduated from Melcher High in 1936. She lived and worked in Des Moines most of her life for J. C. Penny’s, Younkers and retiring from Farm Bureau Insurance.

On Sept, 4, 1939, Betty married Darvin Dare in Missouri.

She was a member of the Central Congregation Community of Christ Church in Des Moines.

Surviving Betty are two sisters, La Vera Swarthout and Marilyn Swanson both of Knoxville, three step grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Darvin; their son, Michael Lynn Dare; three sisters, Jessie Scott, Lucille Seddon, Darlene Swarthout; and infant brother, Edward Luke.

A memorial service will be held at the Knoxville Community of Christ Church, 714 Willetts Ave. Saturday, Jan. 5, at 10 a.m. Memorials may be made to the Community of Christ Church.
