Chariton —
Alfred Leroy Wilson was born June 10, 1937, to Clarence and Lois (Rodgers) Wilson in Melcher. He graduated from Melcher High School in 1957 and married Arlene Polich on Oct. 12, 1957. They were blessed with four children: Kim, Terri, Brad, and Mindy.
Alfred worked at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines as the Patient Account Director for many years retiring to open Al’s Auto Electric in Melcher-Dallas.
Alfred enjoyed camping, mushroom hunting, and fishing. He loved going to auctions and looking for his “antique beauties”. Everyone will remember his smile and ability to tell a great story or joke. He liked to tinker with cars and sometimes had a need for speed.
He loved his family and enjoyed all the time spent with them. His grandchildren remember his playful spirit, noodle fights, and lawn mower racing.
Alfred passed away July 1, 2012, at the Legacy Lodge Hospice in Chariton at the age of 75 years. Preceding Alfred in death were his parents, and siblings Earl Wilson and Daryl Wilson. He is survived by his wife, Arlene; children: Kim (Bob) Karpan of Melcher-Dallas, Terri (Lenny) King of Naples, Fla., Brad (Laurie) Wilson of Des Moines, and Mindy (Jon) Suntken of Melcher-Dallas; 12 grandchildren: Heather and Jeff, Bobby, Kristen and Tyler, Ryan, Linsay and Drew, Cortney, Mike, Nick, Amber, MacKenzie, Sydney, and Owen; five great grandchildren: Brayden, Mahree, Brynlee, Bella, and Pearson; and his dog, Tink.
