Knoxville —

Jonna Joy Sytsma, age 75, of Knoxville, passed away at West Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Knoxville on Saturday, June 30, 2012.

Jonna was born July 14, 1935, in Harvey, the daughter of Charles Edward and Pauline Louella (Harsin) Cook. Jonna was a graduate of Knoxville High School. After high school she attended and graduated from the Ottumwa Beauty Academy.

In 1953 in Oskaloosa, Jonna was united in marriage to Eugene Ray Sytsma. They were blessed with 47 years of marriage and two children Charles and Nancy. Gene died in 1990.

Jonna was a beautician all her life. She worked for few years at Spurgeon’s Beauty Salon and later sold Avon and operated her own beauty salon

She enjoyed making crafts with her children, cooking, vacationing along the Des Moines River near Tracy. She especially enjoyed and helped raising her grandchildren.

Jonna is survived by her children Charles “Chuck” Sytsma of Knoxville and Nancy Briggs and husband Paul of Knoxville; five grandchildren Ashley (Josh) Klinehands, Leslie Briggs, Zach Sytsma, Dan Briggs and Jamie Briggs. She is also survived by her sister Judy.

Jonna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Gene; one son in infancy Michael Charles Sytsma; and one brother Charles Cook.

Jonna has been cremated per her wishes and Jonna’s family will be greeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, July 9, 2012, at the Winfield Funeral Home of Knoxville.
