Funeral services for Frances Scott of Knoxville were held on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, at the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Josyph Andrews officiating. Burial followed in the Graceland Cemetery. Jim Kidder, organist and Annie Leonard, vocalist shared the selections of “Amazing Grace” and “Ave Maria”. Casket bearers included Tim Hoegh, Holly Hoegh, Tressa Hoegh, Mark Johnson, Andy Hoegh and Hans Krengel.
Frances Caroline Scott was born Feb. 1, 1924, in Stanton, Iowa, the daughter of Carl Magnus Peterson and Emily Hannah Otelia (Malmberg) Peterson.
She graduated from Stanton High School and then worked in Red Oak at JC Penney. She later moved to Atlantic, Iowa, where she was employed as a secretary at Larson & Lowers a local implement dealer. It was in Atlantic where Frances met and later married William R. “Bill” Scott on September 12, 1958. In 1960 the couple moved to Knoxville and purchased Marion County Abstract Co. Frances worked in the abstract office with Bill until they sold the business to their nephew, Chris Hoegh, in 1983. Frances was active in the First Presbyterian Church, PEO and Mentor Study Club. She was also a 50-year member of the Eastern Star.
In their spare time, Frances and Bill enjoyed traveling, especially to see family in her father’s native land of Sweden. Frances loved entertaining in her home for friends and particularly for family during holidays. Her dogs Schnappy (there were four) were devoted companions, and an important part of Frances’ life. Frances will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, aunt, neighbor and friend by her family and the Knoxville community.
Frances passed away on Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012, at the Mercy Hospital Medical Center, in Des Moines, at the age of 88 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William R. “Bill” Scott; a brother-in-law, Ken Hoegh, and sister, Helen Johnson and her husband Harry.
Those left to honor her memory include her sister, Mary Louise Hoegh of Atlantic; nieces and nephews: Martha Boyce (Leo) of Billings, Montana, Sara Neff of Billings, Montana, Mark Johnson (Cheryl) of Kansas City, Paul Johnson (Diana) of Missoula, MT, Emily Krengel (Mark) of Atlantic, Tim Hoegh (Kathy) of Atlantic, Chris Hoegh (Julie) of Knoxville, Holly Hoegh (Pete Butterfield) of Davis, Calif., Jim Braden, Judy Jarrett, Jeff Scott, Melissa Scott, George Scott, Jr., Melanie Holmes, and Bill Scott. Also surviving are her Iowa great nieces and nephews: Andy Hoegh and Tressa Hoegh from Knoxville, Hans Krengel, Cydney Hoegh Karstens and Jayney Hoegh from Atlantic, and her great great niece Eleanor Larsen Hoegh (daughter of Andy & Emma Hoegh), and many other family members and friends.
