Norma Long, 96, of Melcher-Dallas passed away March 13, 2012, at the Lucas County Health Center in Chariton.

Funeral services will be Friday, March 16, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the New Hope United Methodist Church in Melcher-Dallas with family receiving friends prior to the service beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Memorials are requested to the New Hope United Methodist Church or to the Melcher-Dallas Rescue Unit. Burial will be at the Dallas Cemetery. Online condolences for the family may be left at pierschbacherfuneralhome.com.

Norma was born July 9, 1915, at home in rural Lucas County to Merrill and Agnes Smith. She graduated from Williamson High School in 1933.

She was married to Carl Long on Sept. 15, 1934. Norma was co-owner of Long and Smith Clothing Store in Melcher from 1948 to 1978. She enjoyed spending winters in Texas with her husband Carl. She liked to play golf, bridge, and was a member of several clubs and organizations.

Norma is survived by her sister-in-law, Helen Smith of Chariton and many nieces and nephews. Preceding Norma in death were her parents; and siblings: Elsie Mullins, Worth Smith, Mable Gill, Joe Smith, Eva Edwards, and Hugh Smith.
