George Kreimeyer

George Edward Kreimeyer was born Sept. 10, 1929, in Deshler, Neb., to William August and Sylvia Irene (Davis) Kreimeyer.  George was raised in Deshler and attended Deshler High School.  

Following high school he served in the United States Air Force in teletype communications from 1948 to 1953.  During his service George was united in marriage to Ruth Irene Bennett on Feb. 21, 1952, in Knoxville.  George and Ruth shared 49 years of marriage and were blessed with five children; Jackie, Sheila, Cindy, Kelly and Bryan.  Ruth died on Feb. 16, 2001.

George lived in Pleasantville and Knoxville most of his life.  He worked as a farm laborer, later at Maytag, The Goodyear Store and on the Red Rock Dam Project.  He also worked at the V.A. Hospital as a nurse's aid, retiring after 30 years of service and worked for 40 years with the Knoxville Coop.  George was also a member of the American Legion, Baty-Tucker Post 168 of Knoxville, A.F.G.E. Union, and he enjoyed working, staying busy and helping friends and family.  

George died on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, at the Iowa Veterans Home of Marshalltown at the age of 83 years, 1 month, and 17 days.

George is preceded in death by his parents William and Sylvia; his wife Ruth; his daughter Jackie Willoughby; and his granddaughter Mystie Dawn Kreimeyer.  He is also preceded by two sisters Lillian Moyle and Dorothy White; and one brother Clarence Kreimeyer.

He is survived by four children; Sheila Best and husband Jerry of rural Attica, Cindy Massick of Knoxville, Kelly Kreimeyer of Knoxville, and Bryan Kreimeyer and wife Pam of rural Attica; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.  George is also survived by his sister Sarah Brown of Portland, Ore.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, at the Pleasantville Cemetery in Pleasantville.  Military Honors will follow services at the cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the Iowa Veterans Home of Marshalltown.  Condolences may be sent to www.winfieldfh.com. Winfield Funeral Home of Knoxville is handling arrangements.
