Marshalltown —

Memorial services for Elizabeth “Betty” Hancock of Marshalltown were held on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, at the Bybee & Davis Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Richard A. King and Rev. Clinton Wallace officiating.  Musical selections of:  “Why Me Lord”, “Amazing Grace” and “Walk through this World with Me” were shared.

Honorary casket bearers included:Kyle McMenamin, Drake McMenamin, James McMenamin, Shawn McMenamin, Dakota McMenamin, David McMenamin, Andrew McMenamin, Josh Miller, Jon Miller, Joe Miller, Cody Hancock, Saxon Hancock, Arion Hancock, Bart Hancock and Brad Hancock.

Elizabeth Ruth (Betty) Williams Hancock arrived in heaven on Oct. 24, 2012, where she was welcomed by her parents, Harold and Ruth Williams, her son, Brian Hancock, her granddaughter, Claire Hancock and countless other family members and friends.

Betty was born April 16, 1939, and was the youngest of three children.  She was raised in Marion County where she attended Dallas Elementary School and subsequently Knoxville High School.  She was very active in 4-H and played basketball.

She was united in marriage to Darrell Hancock in 1957 and they had five children:  Denise McMenamin of Pella, Brian Hancock, deceased, Jeff Hancock of Warner Robbins, Ga., Michelle (Don) Miller of Satanta, Kan., and Michael (Kari) Hancock of Marshalltown.  Betty has 19 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and was expecting another great-grandchild in February.

Betty worked at several jobs throughout her career, but the most memorable was serving Fairview Christian Church and preparing the annual Easter and Thanksgiving meals.  She also enjoyed working at the Knoxville Raceway where she served as a member of the parking and security staff.

Iowa State men’s basketball was a favorite during the winter months.  Betty made cookies for the entire team for home games for the last eight years and was a familiar face to staff and players.

Betty had a giving spirit and never knew a stranger.  She was known far and wide for her cooking and she enjoyed making sweet treats for others.  She loved to attend events for the grandchildren and especially enjoyed her visits to her out-of-state children and grandchildren.

Those left behind to cherish her memory include her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brother, Phillip Ardean (Janice) Williams of Mitchellville and sister, Joann (Clifford) Hoch of Dallas,  and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in her name for the Fairview Christian Church.  For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to BertrandFuneralHomes.com
