Clinton L. Jones

Knoxville —

Clinton LeRoy Jones was born on Dec. 17, 1918, in Columbia, the son of Arthur Franklin and Edna May (Pack) Jones.  He grew up in the Columbia area and graduated from Attica High School. Clinton was inducted into the United States Army on March 8, 1941, and proudly served his country as a Code Clerk during World War II. He was honorably discharged on Oct. 17, 1945. He was united in marriage to Wilma Anna Stephenson on May 22, 1947. The couple eventually settled in Knoxville and he began working as an aide and orderly at the Veterans
Administrative Hospital, where he was employed for over 35 years. In his last few years, his health began to deteriorate, so he moved to All American Restorative Care in Washington, Iowa.

Clinton was a member of the American Legion and the NARFE.  He loved to travel. He took an annual trip to Oregon to visit family, made trips to Wyoming to hunt deer, and even took patients from the V.A. out of state to visit their families. Clinton was a very hard worker, he helped out on the farm and painted houses in his spare time, and even did all the household chores. He could always be counted on to help those in need, and was a friend to all. Most of all, Clinton was dedicated to his family and made sure all were cared for, from his parents to his nieces and nephews.

Clinton passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at the Washington County Hospital in Washington, Iowa, at the age of 94 years.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Wilma on July 1, 2001; and his siblings, Clifford, Raymond and Gerald Jones and Irma Sevege and Ruby Stephenson.

Those left to honor his memory include his nieces and nephews, Karen Scarff, Ron (Karen) Jones, Larry Jones, Jerry (Susan) Jones, Sandra Tidwell and Kathy Ewing; sister-in-law, Wanda Jones; brother-in-law, LeRoy (Shirley) Stephenson; and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.  Clinton will also be missed by his many friends he made throughout his lifetime.

A visitation was held on Friday, Feb. 8. A funeral service was held on Saturday, Feb. 9, at Williams Funeral Home in Knoxville with Pastor Brent Hanna officiating.  Burial with military honors followed in Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville.  For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to Olive Chapel United Methodist Church.
