Knoxville — The remodeling project at the Knoxville Fire Station is almost done. The department is also reorganizing its leadership structure.
As for the remodel, all that remains is adding base linings, where the walls meet the floor. The walls have been painted, new ceiling tiles, floor and cabinets have all been installed. New furniture is expected to arrive soon as well. An open house may be held in October, but no definite plans or date have been set.
The fire department personnel has undergone a change in leadership. Greg Higginbotham remains the acting chief until a permanent replacement is found. When a new chief is in place, he and Ben Truetken will serve as deputy chiefs. Truetken will be the deputy for the fire side of the department, while Higginbotham will serve in the same capacity for the EMS aspect of the department.
The remainder of the leadership structure will be First Captains Don Witzenburg (fire) and Michelle Fisher (EMS); Second Captains Chris Camden (fire) and Val Kemp (EMS).
Higginbotham said that this move has already eased the workload for him.
