Those visiting the Knoxville Raceway will notice something new across the street, next to one of the landmarks linked with the track.
Down Under Grill is set to open today, June 22, at 701 N. Lincoln St., next door door to Dingus Lounge.
Part-owner Barry Lewis, who has owned race cars for 40 years and have a background in the restaurant business, commented that the grill will look to serve the speedway, bar crowd to begin with.
The grill will feature hot Australian meat pies, a nation dish Lewis said, imported from Australia, along with other items including, hamburgers with a variety of optional toppings, chicken burgers, hot dogs will all the fixings and fresh white walleye and chips made with fresh potatoes.
Lewis, who is partnering with AJ Motett, in the venture, stressed that all the food will be fresh, not frozen.
The grill will be open from 11 a.m. - 10 p.m. during the week and open until 3 a.m. on the weekends (Friday-Saturday).
"We will be open 24-hours during Nationals," Lewis said. "It should be a good time."

On Saturday, May 18, the Knoxville Police K-9 Unit participated in the annual Midwest K-9 Detector Dog Trials in Adel. Officers Rowland and Knox successfully certified with a perfect 4 out of 4 score. This is the fifth consecutive year that the Knoxville K-9 Unit has achieved a perfect score.
