Knoxville — A Pontiac Vibe ran a red light at Lincoln and Larson around noon today and struck a golf cart. Two people were taken to the Knoxville Hospital as a result.
According to witnesses, and Lt. Aaron Fuller of the Knoxville Police Department, the Vibe, driven by Charles Smith of Knoxville, was southbound on Lincoln when he ran the red light. The Vibe struck a golf cart, driven by Bob Miller, a race car driver from Colona, Ill., in town for the Late Model Nationals. The golf cart was eastbound on Larson at the time.
Miller's wife, Jen Miller, was a passenger on the golf cart. She received cuts and scrapes according to witnesses. She was transported by Knoxville Rescue to the hospital. Her son, Logan, was also transported by ambulance after passing out upon seeing his mother on a stretcher.
Smith was charged with having no proof of insurance and failure to obey a traffic signal, according to Fuller. Fuller said it is important for driver's to be sure that their current insurance cards are inside their vehicle at all times.
The Millers have another challenge to get home from the hospital. They have only golf carts and a motor home. Golf carts cannot be driven on Lincoln Street, which is Highway 14.
