Deputies called to courthouse

Knoxville — An altercation following the conclusion of a civil trial this afternoon led to a request for additional deputies at the Marion County Courthouse.

Deputies were called out around 4:25 p.m. in regard to the situation which took place on the third floor of the courthouse. Sheriff Jason Sandholdt arrived on scene shortly after and interviewed two unidentified subjects. He left after an interview that took approximately eight minutes. Sandholdt would not discuss the situation and said he would talk later.

The case being heard today was in regard to a traffic accident. Scheduled witnesses included former Sheriff Ron Goemaat and Chief Deputy Troy Fisher. The incident apparently took place after a verdict in the case, outside of the main courtroom. The altercation could be heard by County staff on other floors.

We will try to learn more about this and provide updates.
