Knoxville — As of Monday afternoon at 3:15 p.m., the Marion County Auditor's Office had already distributed over 5,700 absentee ballots for the General Election. There are approximately 24,000 registered voters in Marion County.
Of those ballots already out, 650 have voted at the Auditor's Office. Voting is available at the window, on the second floor of the courthouse, during regular business hours.
County Auditor Jake Grandia said absentee ballot requests continue to come in. These ballots will not be opened until the night of Nov. 5, and they will not be tabulated until Election Day, Nov. 6. Ballots must be postmarked by Nov. 4.
The Auditor's Office is holding a satellite voting event at the Maytag Center on the Central College campus in Pella on Tuesday, Oct. 23, from 10 a.m.-7 p.m.
Grandia is encouraging all voters to make sure they are registered to vote. The pre-registration deadline for voting is Oct. 27 at 5 p.m. If you are not registered to vote by that time, you will have to follow the Election Day voter registration process.
"People don't have to declare a party," Grandia said. This election is open, you do not have to be registered in a specific party to participate. You can vote how and for whom you want.
