Man drowns at Roberts Creek

Roberts Creek — On Saturday, September 8 2012, at 6:38 p.m. Marion County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch received a 911 call from the Roberts Creek area.  The caller advised there was an unattended boat floating off shore and they could see a male floating face down in the waters of Roberts Creek.  The Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Marion County Conservation, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Pella EMS personnel responded to the scene.

When law enforcement and rescue personnel arrived they located Dean Allen Hoganson, of Des Moines, approx. 100 yards off shore floating face down.

Mr. Hoganson was retrieved from the water and brought back to shore, where rescue personnel were waiting.  Rescue efforts to resuscitate Mr. Hoganson were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene.  An autopsy is scheduled with the State Medical Examiner’s Office, in Ankeny.  No foul play is suspected however this case remains under investigation by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
