FFA Alumni Ramps Up Another Year

Pella — The FFA Alumni group in Pleasantville met last week to discuss plans for another year focused on creating opportunity for students in Ag. The alumni concentrated on opening a livestock teaching farm last year, which has created some buzz around the state. The farm is up and running and the students are enjoying the opportunities and new potentials that come with it. However, it’s time to look for new ways to assist the Ag program at Pleasantville – after all, agriculture is more than livestock.

Several committees have been formed to cover everything from horticulture to mechanics and leadership to conservation. “We don’t want to ‘bite off’ more than we can handle at a time,” says President Bryan Thill, “which is why we plan to guide our agenda by the current interests of the students.” The alumni hopes to work on improving the mechanics/welding shop this year due to a need for more space and students interested in those programs.

Fortunately, the alumni was able to build funds by driving trams at the Iowa State Fair this year and is grateful for all the volunteers it took to pull it off. Volunteers are needed again to help create opportunities for the students with those funds.
