Seven PRHC nominated for award
Pella — Seven nurses at Pella Regional Health Center have been nominated for the annual 100 Great Iowa Nurses for 2010. The program is designed to recognize nurses from around the state who demonstrate exceptional qualities and care to both their co-workers and patients, and show tremendous passion for the nursing profession.
The nominees from Pella Regional are:
Carla Chow, RN, Director of Emergency Department, joined Pella Regional in 2006. She’s been a nurse for more than 20 years, with experience from all over the country, including Hawaii. Chow is known around Pella Regional as a true family person, who is kind and compassionate, with a great sense of humor. She is often willing to cover shifts for co-workers, even on weekends and holidays.
Sherri Church, RN, Emergency Nurse, carries her nursing skills beyond the walls of Pella Regional. Church provides emergency care at many local high school sporting events, as well as ambulance EMT services and emergency care at the Knoxville National Sprint Car Track. She provides the community with outstanding expertise in the field of nursing, and is known as a very understanding and caring woman.
Janice Graham, RN, Wound Care Nurse, is a long-time nurse at Pella Regional, and known as an “icon” in the community. Her dedication to wound care has sparked the creation of the Wound Care Program at Pella Regional. Her enthusiasm and love in caring for others makes her a joy to work with, and her passion for sharing knowledge with student nurses, staff and patients makes her an excellent source of learning.
Carrie Kelderman, RN, Obstetrics Nurse, contributes to the success of Pella Regional in a variety of ways. She is certified in Lactation and Breastfeeding, and helped jumpstart the Lactation Team at Pella Regional. She also assists with the Spanish-speaking population in the area, and with her specialization in the language, has helped translate all patient paperwork in Obstetrics to Spanish. She is known around the workplace as a supportive, compassionate employee.
Ronda Reimer, RN, Special Projects Coordinator, has been a registered nurse for more than 21 years. She coordinates The Joint Commission readiness and has had two articles published in the magazines American Nurse and HcPro. She is also a chairperson for the Professional Development Council. Reimer shows great care and attention to detail in every aspect of the nursing profession.
Kathy Sokol, RN, Clinical Analyst, is vital to the success of the hospital by acting as a liaison between the Information Technology department and the nurses themselves. Sokol is the reason that Pella Regional operates successfully using the new computerized documentation system. When a new system is being implemented she is there by the clinical nurse’s side each step of the way with her support. Her co-workers see her as an extremely compassionate and dedicated nurse, who is determined to provide the best possible care for patients.
Nancy Zylstra, RN, Director of Perioperative Services (Surgery) began her career as an operating room technician before becoming a registered nurse. She is very active in the lives of her family, as well as those in the community. Nancy has taught Surgical Technology at Mercy College, she is an instructor for the Bible Study group at her local church, and is also president-elect of Des Moines chapter of Theta Tau, the International Nursing Honor Society. Nancy is seen as a very professional, reliable and caring nurse, who is devoted to her career.
The annual 100 Great Iowa Nurses for 2010 will be announced this Spring. The 2010 honorees will gather at the beginning of Nurses’ Week in May in Des Moines with their family, friends and colleagues, as well as past years' recipients, to be recognized for their outstanding careers and achievements.
