Knoxville —
The Knoxville Coaches vs. Cancer event is quickly approaching (Saturday, Jan. 19). Items for the silent auction portion of the event have been coming in, which includes a big-ticket item from a well-known college.
“We have an autographed Notre Dame football signed by the majority of this year's team (including Manti Teo) that is getting ready to play for a national championship next week,” Jim Uitermarkt, KHS girls' basketball coach and Coaches vs. Cancer organizer, said. “There is a neat Knoxville connection with us getting this. Bernard Lee (a Knoxville alum and also my wife Angie's uncle) who lives in Pleasant Hill has a son who is a sophomore on the Notre Dame team. His name is Eric Lee and he is number 37 on the Irish. He is a walk on, but actually got to be in on three plays this season in a game. Eric is the one who was able to get this ball for us.”
If you would like to make a monetary donation, donate a silent auction item or order a commemorative shirt for the game, contact Uitermarkt at jim.uitermarkt@kcsd.k12.ia.us or call Knoxville Middle School at 842-3315.
