Marion County — Final results are in and Republicans will continue to represent all parts of Marion County in the Legislature in 2013.
Amy Sinclair defeated Dick Schrad to take the State Senate District 14 seat by a tally of 10,253 to 7,617.
"I'm very excited," Sinclair said. "I'm excited to get to work." She said she and her supporters have worked very hard. Schrad also complimented his volunteers and supporters.
"We worked hard to earn the votes that we did," Schrad said. "It's been an awesome experience meeting voters in District 14." Though he won't be a Senator, Schrad said he has learned a great deal about the issues facing the district and wants to do what he can to try to remedy those. He hopes the district's representation, and the Legislature as a whole, would work together in a bipartisan manner to improve Iowa.
Ken Rozenboom defeated Tim Tripp 16,340 to 10,476 to win the Senate District 40 seat.
"I believe my views match up well in this district," Rozenboom said. "That did the heavy lifting for me. I am elated and I was optimistic, but until the numbers come in you never know. Tim (Tripp) worked hard and I am just delighted with the decision of the voters."
A message was left for Tripp, but the call has not yet been returned.
"It's a relief to have this stage of it over," Heartsill said. He is honored by the confidence the voters have shown him. When he gets to the Legislature in January, he will focus on things that will make the state government more efficient.

Guy VanderLinden will represent Iowa House District 79. His opponent, Chris Wilson, has moved out of state and would have been unable to serve, even if elected. VanderLinden's margin of victory was 10,769 to 4,168. A message was left for VanderLinden as well.
The races for Marion County offices were settled in the primary. No Democrats sought the County seats up for election.
Jim Kingery received 11,691 votes and Mark Raymie received 9,925 votes in the supervisors' election. Both will serve, as there are two open seats.
Jake Grandia will remain Marion County's Auditor. He received 13,667 votes.
"I appreciate the support people gave me and I'll do my best," Grandia said. Grandia has also overseen today's election and reported no problems.
Jason Sandholdt will be Marion County's Sheriff in January. Sheriff Ron Goemaat is retiring at the end of the year and did not seek reelection.
"I'm excited and looking forward to the future," Sandholdt said. He is eager to serve the people of Marion County, to do the best job he can and he thanked everyone who helped his campaign.
"I've had a great career with the Department of Natural Resources," Sandholdt added. One of his top priorities when he takes the Sheriff's Office will be tackling the issue of drugs in the county, especially among youth.
Republicans won in Marion County who ended up losing their respective races. Presidential candidate Mitt Romney won Marion County, though he lost Iowa and the race to Barack Obama. Congressional candidate John Archer received more votes in Marion County than Dave Loebsack, but Loebsack won.
Marion County voters also voted to oust Supreme Court Justice David Wiggins, 9,394 to 5,744, but statewide, voters chose to retain him. The other justices on the ballot will also be retained.
