Knoxville — The Knoxville Police Department reported in a press release this morning that, at about 1:22 a.m. on Sept. 13, officers were called to an address just off the square for a possible assault. Shortly before midnight the same residents had called to report that a man had called and threatened to come over and fight.
According to court documents, Stephen Michael Mata Visser, 28, of Knoxville, entered a home on West Robinson at 1:15 a.m. He had a hammer in his hand when he allegedly broke in.
There were two males at the home when he arrived. Visser was reportedly looking for a third, who owned him money. The two who were in the home were unaware of the third person's whereabouts.
Visser allegedly put the hammer in their faces and demanded to know where the third person was. He used the hammer to smash an ash tray to emphasize his point, according to court documents. The two males were in fear for their lives.
The suspect allegedly stole a pair of $20 sandals. He spit in the face of one of the two males, court documents indicate, before he left.
Officers went to the suspect’s house and were able to locate him. Inside his garage, Visser allegedly had a glass smoking pipe with marijuana residue inside. The pipe was on a table in the garage.
Visser is charged with theft-fifth degree, interference with official acts, possession of drug paraphernalia, going armed with intend, burglary first-degree and assault while participating in a felony. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 21 at 9:30 a.m.
