Offers perspective

Knoxville —

To the editor:

On Sept. 21, 2012, the online version of the Journal Express ran an article concerning the Marion County Attorney’s Office budget.  I want to point out that I believe the article was fairly reported and accurately reflected the statistics concerning dollars spent  during my administration to date.  However, I am concerned that the reference to Sioux County might mislead the readers of the paper.  There can be no dispute that Sioux County Attorney’s Office has only one full time assistant county attorney.  However, that only tells one side of the story.  Sioux County’s office is organized differently than the Marion County Attorney’s Office.

In addition to that assistant county attorney, Sioux County also has two paralegals that work in that office as well as an office manager and support staff including a crime victim coordinator.  Further, the Sioux County Attorney’s budget is approximately $100,000 more than the Marion County Attorney’s Budget.

I appreciate the opportunity to provide this information, as I think it better compares the two counties’ structure and budget.  As always, I appreciate the opportunity to provide full information to the community whenever it is requested.
