Annoyed with the Editor, Letter 1

Knoxville —

To the Editor:

I'm a little annoyed that the recurring column,"In The House of Wood" is becoming a personal soapbox for the Knoxville Journal Express' Editor, Steve Woodhouse. The latest piece, entitled, It's Tornado Season, is just the most recent in a long line of thinly-veiled conservative preaching and subtle liberal-bashing.

Whether he's singing the praises of Ronald Reagan (April 1, 2011), suggesting that gender balance is a liberal conspiracy (May 19, 2011), or ripping on the Wisconsin democratic leaders (February 24, 2011), Mr. Woodhouse has a perfect set-up: unlimited printed space and the final say in publishing potential retorts.

Should the editor of a local paper also have a column to promote his own (quite personal) political diatribes? How about striking a balance by offering a column to a liberal-leaning local? It might be nice to hear both sides for a change.
