Knoxville — The Knoxville Hardee's is taking part in a program by its parent company to raise funds for organizations that help veterans and their families.
Westar Foods, the local Hardee's parent company, has begun a campaign known as "Helping Local Heroes." Through Nov. 30, patrons can purchase a flag, many of which are already on display at Hardee's, for $1. The money raised will go to the National Military Family Association and Operation Homefront.
"Everybody's really excited about it," Knoxville General Manager Brandi Taylor said. In addition to helping veterans and purchasing a flag, each donation entitles the donor to a free small drink. Taylor did not want to disclose how much money the business has raised through this point, but said that for an eatery with a smaller sales volume than others in the ownership group, Knoxville is raising much more money than others.
Several employees, including Hardee's own resident veteran, TJ Snook, have made donations on their own. No specific items have to be purchased to make a donation, and there is no limit regarding how large a donation can be.
Taylor said Hardee's is eager to become more visible in the community in the coming weeks. The Hardee's Star will be a part of Thursday's Holiday Lighted Parade.
The restraunt is equally as excited about the progress on Pleasant Street, as the street should be reopened soon. Hardee's has suffered financially with the construction project, but the City has worked with them and the business has persevered.
