Donations, preparations underway for 2013 Coaches vs. Cancer event

Knoxville — Knoxville is the reigning Midwest champion in total money raised for the American Cancer Society for Coaches vs. Cancer events. Whether or not the community will "three-peat" remains to be seen, but preparations for the Jan. 19, 2013, have begun.

Jim Uitermarkt, Knoxville High School girls' varsity basketball coach, and his wife, Angie, have spearheaded the Coaches vs. Cancer event the past few years. He said Friday night that silent auction items are already coming in, and that the sonner they can receive silent auction items, the easier it will be for them to get that piece of the Coaches vs. Cancer equation organized.

The shirt design for this year's event will be black, with pink letters spelling out "Beat Cancer" underneath a matching pink Panther head logo. The shirt will be availalbe as a t-shirt (long sleeve or short sleeve) and a sweatshirt. Order forms were available at Friday night's basketball games and the remaining three home games before the date of the event.
