Update: City employees vy for "The Golden Ladle"

Knoxville — The seventh annual City of Knoxville employee chili cook-off is just about to wrap up.

This year, there were nine entries vying for the coveted golden ladle. Fire Chief Mike Roberts came into today's competition, holding the ladle as the 2011 winner of the event. He was boasting with confidence that he will repeat.

However, he did not. Roberts was bested by Therese Augustine, whose cheesy chili blend earned the most votes. Augustine defeated Jodi Bassett's entry by a single vote.

The tradition was started by Police Chief Dan Losada, but he has only won the competition once. Other past winners include Kevin Rodgers, Jennifer Ethell, Dick Schrad and Billy DeJong.
