“Lincoln” dominates Iowa Film Critics' awards

Knoxville —

Members of the Iowa Film Critics Association have showered Steven Spielberg's biopic “Lincoln” with the lion's share of its awards.

“Lincoln” has been selected as Best Film, with Spielberg earning Best Director honors, and Daniel Day Lewis and Tommy Lee Jones earning Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor awards, respectively.

In the Best Actress category, Jessica Chastain was chosen for her performance in “Zero Dark Thirty.” “Zero Dark Thirty” was also up for Best Film and Best Director (Kathryn Bigelow).

Anne Hathaway's performance in “Les Miserables” earned her the IFCA's Best Supporting Actress award. “Les Miserables” Director Tom Hooper was the third finalist in the director category.

“Brave” bested “ParaNorman” and “Wreck It Ralph” to earn Best Animated Film honors. In an award unique to Iowa, members of the IFCA choose the Best Film Yet to Open in Iowa. “Amour” earned the award this year.

As a finalist in four of IFCA's categories, “Silver Linings Playbook” was shut out of each one. The film was up for Best Film, Best Actor (Bradley Cooper), Best Actress (Jennifer Lawrence) and Best Supporting Actor (Robert DeNiro).

Other finalists in each category were John Hawkes, up for Best Actor for his performance in “The Sessions,” Alan Arkin, up for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in “Argo,” Best Supporting Actress nominees Amy Adams (“The Master) and Helen Hunt (“The Sessions”).
