Auditorium fund raisers to be out during Homecoming

Knoxville — The fund raising arm of the Knoxville Auditorium Committee has set a goal to raise $250,000 to equip the high school auditorium under construction and to create an endowment for the auditorium to maintain it in the years to come.

Construction costs for the auditorium are covered through a bond approved by the Knoxville School Board. A portion of the school district's anticipated sales tax proceeds will be used to repay the bonds. The money used will come from a levy that restricts usage to physical plant projects and not general fund expenses, such as salaries and benefits.

Equipment costs are estimated at $100,000. The committee would like to raise $150,000 to start an endowment, to continue to pay for technological upgrades and ongoing costs in the years to come.

Brochures, courtesy of David Hoke, have been distributed at recent events to spread the word of the fund raisers' mission. The committee intends to be present at various homecoming functions this weekend, in the hopes of reaching alumni.

Volunteers at the Lodge of Westridge were busy this afternoon, folding brochures to prepare for the weekend.
