New hunting, fishing license options for 2013

CENTERVILLE — Hunters and anglers have new licenses from which to choose in 2013 offering time saving convenience of purchasing a bundled license, lessens the worry about expiring every year and expands fishing opportunities with a new third line option.

All 2012 Iowa hunting and fishing licenses expire on Jan. 10, 2013. All hunters and anglers will need a 2013 license to hunt or fish beginning Jan. 11.

The new license options include

• Outdoor Combo Licenses, annual resident hunting/fishing/habitat combo license for $47;

• Angler’s Specials – a three-year fishing license (for 2013 license purchases, it will expire Jan. 10, 2016) for $53;

• Bonus Line Licenses – allowing resident and nonresident anglers to fish with one additional line (the regular fishing license allows two), for $12; and

• Hunter’s Specials – a three-year hunting license with habitat included (for 2013 license purchases, it will expire Jan. 10, 2016) for $86.

These new license offerings were developed based on results from a license buyer survey that helped the DNR identify customer needs.

Iowa hunting and fishing license fees remain unchanged for 2013. The last increase for a hunting license was in 2002, and for fishing license was 2003. Vendor fees were increased and passed on to the license buyer in 2010 to help offset the cost of developing the second generation electronic license system for Iowa.
