Oskaloosa looking at recreation options

OSKALOOSA — Joe Crookham, of the Mahaska Community Recreation Foundation Board, presented the MCRF annual report at Monday’s Oskaloosa City Council meeting.

Crookham discussed many projects being worked on by MCRF including the new community stadium, developments at the Lacey Recreation Complex, the Urban Park and the recreation trail.

The track surface at the new stadium was put down and seating was added near the north end zone, said Crookham. Seating has also been added to the main stands. This includes adding 150 seats, noted Crookham.

An additional floor on the stadium’s press box has been added, as well, said Crookham. Turrets at each end zone for cameras has also been added to the stadium.

Drainage and seating has also been added to the west field at the Lacey Complex, said Crookham.

Concrete pads for discus, javelin toss and shot put are also now available for conference track meets, noted Crookham.

A booth for collecting fees at certain events and additional parking has also been added to the area, Crookham said. He also noted the new batting cage area, which was added in 2012.

A Green Street underpass has also been done, said Crookham.

Crookham also talked about the Urban Park on A Avenue, also known as the skate park. He also spoke of the trams, which are used for tours on the recreation trail, as well.

Developments regarding the trail, including those over by University Park, were also discussed by Crookham. He also spoke well of volunteer hours put into MCRF projects.

“It’s been a fairly busy year,” said Crookham.
