Area expecting significant snow Thursday

OTTUMWA — Forecasts shifted for southeast Iowa on Wednesday, with most locations now expecting between 5-7 inches of snow from a storm that will move in Thursday morning.

Ottumwa, Oskaloosa and Knoxville are all expected to see 5-9 inches of snow by the time things finally taper off Friday morning. But Pella and Centerville could see more under the National Weather Service's predictions Wednesday afternoon. Pella's range was 6-10 inches, while Centerville could see anywhere from 4-10 inches of snow.

Here's a breakdown of the forecasts as of Wednesday afternoon:

Ottumwa: Snow beginning after noon Thursday, with 3-5 inches accumulating during the day. Another 2-4 inches possible overnight.

Oskaloosa: Snow beginning after 1 p.m. Thursday, with 2-4 inches possible during the day. An additional 3-5 inches of snow possible overnight, with less than a half-inch accumulating Friday.

Knoxville: Snow after noon with 3-5 inches possible Thursday. Overnight could see another 2-4 inches of accumulation.

Pella: Snow after noon Thursday, with 3-5 inches possible during the day and another 3-5 inches possible overnight.

Centerville: Snow beginning after 9 a.m.; 3-7 inches possible during the day. An additional 1-3 inches of snow is expected overnight.
