SLIDESHOW: Eisenhower bridge comes down

OTTUMWA — Crews gently lowered the pedestrian bridge at Eisenhower Elementary School early Friday morning, a crucial step in getting the span back in use.

The bridge has been off limits since a tractor trailer struck it well over a year ago. The city and the trucking company's insurance company have been sparring since then over the cost of repairs.

City officials eventually decided to go ahead and make the repairs and reimburse the city when a settlement comes through.
