Several Oskaloosans hopped aboard the Romney campaign bus with Republican candidate for the 2nd Congressional District, John Archer, to hear what he had to say on the economy and the upcoming election.
In support of the Republican ticket for the November 2012 elections, Archer stopped by the Oskaloosa square on Tuesday morning to talk business and politics with locals who came to show their support and interest in his campaign.
“I came to lend my support for Romney and Mr. Archer so we can let the Obama camp know that there are some people believing in the good path of righteousness. I’m in favor of Mitt Romney and John Archer because of their conservative values, family values, marriage values,” Phil Porter of Oskaloosa said.
Archer invited everyone on board Romney’s campaign bus for a quick cruise around the city as he spoke about our nation needing new leadership and a different direction.
“There is going to be a stark contrast on this election. Do we continue down the path of failed European socialism, the path that we’re currently on with President Obama and Joe Biden? Or do we want to step back and embrace freedom? And that’s economic freedom and individual freedom,” Archer said.
Archer has been on the campaign trail across Iowa hoping to win the Republican ticket against Democrat David Loebsack for Congress. He decided to run for the seat in hopes of changing America’s path to better the future for his children, Henry, 6, and Beatrice, 3.
“The path that America is on is just not sustainable. I want my children to have a better America than what we currently have now,” Archer said as his reason for running for the seat.
Even though he was born and raised in Illinois, Archer is very familiar with Iowa and now calls Iowa home. Serving as Senior Counsel at Deere & Company for the past 11 years, Archer is familiar with the landscape of Iowa from his many trips around counties to different John Deere facilities and believes he would be a good representation for Iowa.
“I absolutely love Iowa. Iowans are really good, hard working individuals. Having traveled the Southeast second district of Iowa, we have met fantastic people and seen great businesses and some fantastic farmers that all want the same thing — less government intrusion.
Archer is also part owner of a local manufacturing business in Bettendorf, and believes his experiences in business and community affairs puts him as a good candidate for the Congressional seat.
“We need individuals who understand those fiscal issues and having worked at John Deere for the past 11 years and being a small business owner myself and serving on the Pleasant Valley Community School Board, I have the experience necessary to solve these complex issues, to find solutions and to make the tough decisions that we need to make in America that put us back on that fiscal path of security,” Archer said.
Archer’s next stop was Marshalltown and then onto Keokuk to visit their John Deere facility. If he wins the election, he hopes to continue to visit each county in his district up to four times a year to hear locals’ thoughts on state issues.
