FAIRFIELD —
One man is dead and another under arrest after a weekend shooting in Jefferson County.
Around 7:30 p.m. Saturday, 911 dispatchers received a call of a shooting at 2469 Marigold Blvd., considered a rural part of Jefferson County just south of Fairfield.
According to a press release from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies found a male victim who had what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds. The man was dead when law enforcement arrived.
Jefferson County Sheriff Jerry Droz says the victim has been identified as Buddy Lee Frisbie, 32. There was a delay in releaseing his name while authorities notified his family of the death.
Deputies arrested a suspect, Tyler James Webster, 33, of Fairfield. Webster has been charged with first-degree murder and as of Sunday morning was being held in the Jefferson County Jail awaiting an initial appearence, which authorities say was scheduled for Sunday. Droz explained that is when a judge would tell Webster what he’s being charged with, as well as the court’s decision on any bond set in the case. An update on the results of any hearing was not available by press time Sunday.
Droz told the Courier there was very little additional information he could comment on beyond the two press releases — the case is still under investigation, he said.
He did say there would be an autopsy. However, Droz declined to comment on whether the victim and suspect knew each other, nor would he comment on whether a weapon used in the shooting has been found. Any possible motive has also not been released.
According to online court records, Webster does not appear to have a history of arrests for violent or serious crimes in Iowa.
The sheriff said the next update on the incident for members of the public would probably be after the autopsy.
