New teachers, administrator set to join Centerville High School

CENTERVILLE — The Centerville Community School District will be welcoming two new teachers and a new principal this year.

Roger Raum is the new principal for Centerville High School, replacing Bill Messerole. Raum is married to his wife Marion and has one daughter, Allison. He was previously the principal at Nodaway Valley High School and is originally from Conrad.

He attended school at the University of Iowa, Loras College and the University of Northern Iowa as well as the Iowa Principal Leadership Academy.

He enjoys baseball, reading and automobiles in his spare time and is looking forward to working with students, parents and teachers in Centerville.

Emily Turner will be a shared teacher with the Moulton Udell School District. She will be teaching Spanish I at Centerville High School and 9-12 Spanish at M-U. She is replacing Barb Frewing.

Turner will also be coaching volleyball at M-U and girl's tennis at Centerville High School.

She is married to her husband, Casey and is originally from Clinton. In her spare time she enjoys baking, biking and reading. She attended Luther College and the University of Northern Iowa and is looking forward to having interactions with all types of students on a daily basis.

Tim Roush will be teaching several social studies courses at Centerville High School, including economics, sociology, psychology and world history. He is replacing Matt Johnson. Although he is not set to coach or sponsor any activities right now, in the past he has worked with Quiz Bowl, Mock Trial, National Honor Society and Chess Club.

Roush is married to his wife Nancy, a registered nurse at Van Buren County Hospital, and has two sons, Matt and Josh, one daughter, Leah, and six granddaughters.

He is from Milton in western Van Buren County and in his spare time enjoys reading, gardening and listening to music. He received his Bachelor's degree from New Hampshire College and his Master's degree from Grand Canyon University. He said his favorite thing about teaching is seeing a student's face light up when they grasp a new idea.
